An important 19th-century Russian icon depicting the sacred Feast of the Exaltation (Elevation) of the Holy Cross, one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church. The central Cross stands prominently, flanked by clergy and holy figures, commemorating the veneration of the True Cross in Jerusalem. Above, within a circular mandorla, appears the Holy Trinity, reinforcing the theological depth and liturgical significance of the scene. The composition reflects the solemn character of this major feast, celebrated annually in the Orthodox calendar. The luminous gilded background symbolizes divine light, while the elongated figures and careful detailing of vestments demonstrate skilled workshop execution of the 19th century. Painted in tempera on wood, the icon preserves the spiritual gravity and devotional intensity associated with feast icons of this period. The reverse shows natural aging of the wooden panel consistent with 19th-century production. Condition consistent with age, with visible surface wear and natural patina enhancing its authentic presence.
