The composition illustrates Saint Anne reclining after childbirth, with Saint Joachim seated nearby in contemplative posture. At the center, attendants prepare the newborn Virgin Mary, while below a secondary scene depicts the bathing of the infant — a traditional iconographic detail symbolizing purity and divine preparation. The architectural framing and flowing drapery enhance the solemn and devotional character of the scene. Executed in tempera on wood with gesso ground and gilded border. The warm ochre background, harmonious proportions, and elongated facial features reflect classical 19th century Russian sacred iconography. The aged varnish and natural patina reinforce its authenticity and historical presence. A spiritually meaningful feast icon representing the beginning of the Theotokos’ life — a key moment within the Orthodox liturgical cycle. Condition: Stable overall. Visible craquelure, surface wear and age-related abrasions consistent with 19th century icons. Original wooden panel with later replaced structural battens for stabilization, professionally fitted on the reverse. Grateful this historic piece has found its new home. “𝔒𝔩𝔡 𝔴𝔬𝔬𝔡 𝔠𝔞𝔯𝔯𝔦𝔢𝔰 𝔥𝔬𝔩𝔶 𝔰𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔦𝔢𝔰”
