A striking 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Mother of God “The Burning Bush” (Neopalimaya Kupina), one of the most symbolically rich Marian images in Orthodox Christianity. The Virgin and Christ Child appear at the center, surrounded by the characteristic eight-pointed star and an impressive celestial arrangement of angels. Hand-painted in traditional egg tempera on an original wooden panel, the icon is distinguished by its vivid blue, green, red, and golden tones. The geometric composition, radiating rays, surrounding angelic figures, and traditional inscriptions create a powerful devotional image reflecting the character of 19th-century Russian icon painting. The icon retains its authentic historical character, displaying a deeply aged surface and centuries-old patina. The reverse preserves traditional Russian construction with two transverse wooden battens, while the natural aging and curvature of the panel further reflect its long history. Despite its extensive wear, the central composition remains beautifully expressive and visually impressive. Condition: Overall good antique condition considering its age, with significant age-related wear, scattered paint and ground losses, abrasions, craquelure, darkening, and surface deterioration, particularly around the borders and lower section.
