A beautiful Russian icon depicting Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most revered saints of the Orthodox Christian tradition. Presented in episcopal vestments and holding the Holy Gospel, Saint Nicholas is shown bestowing a blessing upon the faithful, emphasizing his role as protector, intercessor, and defender of the Church. The traditional composition includes Christ presenting the Gospel and the Mother of God presenting the omophorion in the upper corners, a distinctive iconographic feature associated with Saint Nicholas and his divine appointment as bishop. The warm gilded background, expressive facial features, and finely decorated vestments reflect the enduring artistic traditions of Russian icon painting during the transition from the late 18th to the early 19th century. Executed in egg tempera on a wooden panel, this icon retains a strong devotional presence and displays the authentic character and spiritual depth sought by collectors of Russian sacred art. Condition: Presented in good antique condition with age-related craquelure, wear to the gilding, scattered paint losses, and natural darkening of the surface consistent with its age. Evidence of old conservation or restoration may be present. The original wooden panel with traditional rear battens remains preserved.
