A finely detailed 19th century Russian icon depicting Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most venerated hierarchs in Orthodox Christianity. He is shown in traditional episcopal vestments, blessing with his right hand while holding the Gospel in his left. The Church Slavonic inscription identifies him as "Св. Николай Чудотворец." Executed in tempera on wood with a richly tooled gilded background, the icon features an ornate punched border with symbolic corner motifs typical of provincial Russian workshops of the 19th century. The surrounding miniature figures enhance its devotional character and reflect the strong narrative tradition of Russian iconography during this period. The aged wooden panel, natural patina, and visible wear consistent with time confirm its authenticity and long devotional use. The gold ground and expressive facial features are characteristic of 19th century Russian craftsmanship. Condition: Good antique condition with age-related wear, minor surface losses, and natural craquelure consistent with 19th century examples. The wooden panel shows expected aging marks on the reverse.
