A powerful and deeply authentic depiction of Saint Nicholas, one of the most revered figures in Orthodox Christianity, shown in traditional episcopal vestments and holding the Holy Gospel. The presence of Christ and the Mother of God in the upper medallions reflects his divine blessing and spiritual authority. This icon is executed in classic Russian tempera on wood, with a rich red background and finely drawn facial features that remain expressive despite the passage of time. The composition reflects the devotional character of 19th-century Russian iconography, created for personal prayer and veneration. The icon presents significant age-related wear, including paint losses and surface abrasions consistent with prolonged devotional use. Importantly, there is no evidence of modern overpainting, and the remaining original surface, especially the face, retains its integrity. The back panel shows original aged wood with later-added hanging support.
