A remarkable and deeply devotional Russian Orthodox icon featuring a rich assembly of sacred subjects within a single composition. The upper register presents the Mother of God Hodegetria, a central Gospel scene from the life of Christ, and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most beloved saints of the Orthodox world. The lower registers are populated with revered monastic, martyr, military, and female saints, creating a personal iconostasis intended for private prayer and protection. Executed entirely by hand in egg tempera on a wooden panel, the icon displays the warm ochre, red, and gold palette characteristic of provincial Russian workshops of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The expressive faces, delicate inscriptions, and traditional dark border reflect the enduring artistic and spiritual traditions of Orthodox iconography. Such multi-subject icons were often commissioned for family devotion, bringing together patron saints and protective holy figures in a single sacred image. The presence of Saint George, Saint Nicholas, the Mother of God, and numerous ascetic saints gives this icon exceptional devotional appeal and historical character. Condition: Good antique condition for its age, displaying expected wear from centuries of devotional use. Areas of surface abrasion, craquelure, scattered paint losses, and age-related darkening of the varnish are present throughout. The icon appears to have undergone some conservation and localized touch-ups in the past, particularly within areas of paint loss, which is common for icons of this age. The wooden panel remains stable, while the reverse retains an attractive old patina, historic hanging attachments, and signs of long-term use and preservation.
