A finely composed Russian icon presenting four revered representations of the Mother of God, arranged in a balanced quadripartite format. Each quadrant reflects a distinct Marian type, including the Hodegetria and Tenderness (Eleusa), embodying both the guiding and compassionate aspects of the Virgin. Such compositions were created for private devotion, offering multiple protective and intercessory forms within a single sacred panel. Executed in traditional egg tempera on wood with a gilded background, the icon displays characteristic features of late Imperial Russian workshop production. The expressions are gentle and devotional, with harmonious color contrasts and refined line work. The aged gilding and natural patina enhance its spiritual presence and authenticity. The condition shows age-related wear, including craquelure and areas of surface abrasion, particularly in the lower section. There is minor retouching visible in limited areas, mainly on some figures and background, while the overall composition remains well-preserved and structurally stable.
