A striking and uncommon representation of Christ Pantocrator, rendered in a restrained and highly linear manner. The composition follows the canonical Orthodox model, with Christ blessing and holding the Gospel, yet the execution reveals a rare glimpse into the working process of the icon painter. The simplified outlines, limited modeling, and warm ochre ground suggest a workshop piece, possibly left intentionally minimal or serving as a guide (podlinnik-type) within the tradition. Tempera on wood panel, this icon preserves an honest and untouched character. The surface carries a naturally aged varnish with soft patina, while the facial features and hands remain clearly articulated within the original paint layer. The absence of elaborate gilding further emphasizes its raw, devotional presence—offering a more intimate and authentic connection to the craft of icon painting. Condition: Good antique condition with visible age-related wear. Surface shows natural oxidation and scattered abrasions consistent with time. No significant later overpainting observed; minor localized touch-ups may be present. Structurally stable panel with original rear battens intact.
