A devotional Russian icon of Christ Enthroned (Christ in Majesty / Pantocrator), shown seated on a throne at the center, blessing and presiding over a gathering of haloed saints and holy figures. This type of composition emphasizes Christ as the heavenly King and Judge, and was especially beloved for private prayer and home devotion. The surrounding figures—each carefully labeled in Cyrillic—reinforce the icon’s intercessory character and its importance as a complete spiritual “assembly” around Christ. Painted in tempera on wood with a traditional warm red-brown background, the icon reflects 19th-century workshop practice: linear drawing, restrained palette, and expressive faces typical of provincial Russian production of that time. The aged surface, darkened varnish, and the old panel construction visible from the back support its authentic period character. Condition: Noticeable age-related wear and paint loss, most evident along the lower register, with additional surface abrasions and small scattered losses throughout. The panel shows honest devotional use and time patina; the reverse retains old wooden battens and later hanging cord. Overall stable and presentable for its age.
