A finely composed icon depicting the sacred moment of the Baptism of Christ in the River Jordan, one of the most important feasts in Orthodox Christianity. At the center stands Christ, humbly receiving baptism from St. John the Baptist, while angels gather in reverence on the opposite side, holding garments in preparation. Above, the divine presence is symbolized through the opening of the heavens, marking the revelation of the Holy Trinity. This composition, also known as Theophany or Epiphany, represents not only the baptism itself but the manifestation of God — a deeply theological and spiritual subject cherished in both church and private devotion. The balanced arrangement of figures, combined with the stylized natural landscape and warm tonal palette, reflects the continued tradition of Russian icon painting into the early 20th century. The surface shows natural signs of age including light wear and soft craquelure, consistent with its period.
